There are few more inviting places to be on a snowy weekend than curled up in front of the crackling woodburning stove in this charming Swedish holiday home, which has been renovated with sympathy, love and impeccable taste. Overlooking the sea in Skåne, Sweden’s beautiful southernmost county, this home is brimming with original features, not least the stunning whitewashed floors and beamed ceilings.
“Buying a house in Sweden has been a big dream for us and we are incredibly grateful that we could fulfil this dream last year,’ explains the owners; photographer Laura Muthesius and food stylist Nora Eisermann of Our Food Stories blog. “The nature is so incredible here and to be so close to the ocean is all we could wish for. After looking at two other houses we found our absolute dream house in spring last year.”
Naturally, the kitchen is at the centre of this Scandinavian house. To echo the rustic charm of the space and the natural aesthetic, they chose The Haberdasher’s Kitchen; DeVOL’s wonderful range of handmade modular cupboards with its charming oak-based cupboards and glass drawers. It sits seamlessly alongside Laura and Nora’s eclectic and elegant mix of vintage and mid-century furniture.
We adore the aged copper worktops which shimmer with the reflections of the unique and sculptural woodburner and will change over time to reflect the way they are used. The handsome palest pink matte marble sink, from where you can gaze through the window to the crisp ocean beyond, is also a triumph.
Laura and Nora’s pitch-perfect palette of neutrals casts all the attention on to the beautiful natural materials used throughout the open-plan ground floor, including wood, copper, marble, terracotta, sheepskin, linen, glass and sisal. In turn, the materials echo the hilly landscape and sweeping sandy beaches just outside the windows. The result is a home that is altogether timeless, warm and especially inviting.
