Discover more about Rise & Fall; the new ethical bedlinen brand taking the secrets of a restful night’s sleep back to basics

Hands up if you’ve ever spent a small fortune on aromatherapy sprays, eye masks and meditation apps in a vain attempt to kick-start a blissful night’s sleep. We’ve been there too. So what if the key to a restful night actually lies in the bedlinen itself?
Rise & Fall, which launched last summer, proclaims to have created exceptionally comfortable bedlinen that promotes better sleep. Even more commendable is that their sheets are made ethically from organic cotton and manufactured using 100% green energy.
The brainchild of former management consultant William Coulton and his business partner and former lawyer Jed Coleman, Rise & Fall’s Egyptian cotton bedlinen is plain and simple – there are no fancy details. It is available in just one colour; white, and two types; ‘hotel crisp’ percale and ‘soft and snuggly’ sateen.
Rise & Fall’s meticulously sourced and ethically manufactured organic cotton has long, fine fibres which means they can create sheets with a high thread count without them being rough or heavy. What’s more, Rise & Fall donates £3 from every set of bedding sold to Centrepoint youth homelessness charity.

RISE & FALL FOUNDERS JED COLEMAN (LEFT) AND WILLIAM COULTON (RIGHT)
How did you meet and what were your jobs prior to setting up a business together?
I spent the last few years working in The City as a management consultant for a leading investment management consultancy. Jed is a former disputes lawyer, working for Attorney General Lord Goldsmith QC at the world’s leading disputes firm. Prior to Rise & Fall Jed also co-founded the restaurant and coffee roastery, Caravan.
How long did it take you to discover the ultimate combination of cotton, yarn, weave, thread count and craftsmanship that go into an R&F sheet?
It took us about 12 months to get the balance right. That included visiting mills in four different countries before we were satisfied we had found the right partner. From there it was thousands of samples and hundreds of hours of testing and tweaking before we finally launched the business in the summer of 2018.
Where are your sheets manufactured?
Our sheets are manufactured in Southern India and our partner there is the best in the world. They manufacture using 100% green energy from their own wind farms, recycle and re-use 99% of rain water used in production, don’t use any nasty chemicals in processing the fabrics and offer their entire workforce access to free education; from finishing high school right the way through to post graduate degrees.
What prompted you to partner with the Centrepoint charity?
We just think it is an incredibly deserving cause to get behind. If you are able to buy luxury sheets, even at our amazing prices, you are one of the lucky ones. There are thousands of young people sleeping rough every night. In parks, stairwells, under bridges and worse. Rise & Fall is all about giving our customers a better night’s sleep and we thought these young people could do with the same.
