We have long championed homes that are uniquely your own; that make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Spaces filled with items that speak to you, rather than those purely dictated by trends. Gallery walls are the perfect way to display your favourite art, photos, ceramics or textiles
The gallery walls here vary in size, theme, and presentation but all are filled with personality and character. They are perfect in their imperfections and we hope they inspire you.
Ki Nassauer’s book, Lived-In Style, celebrates and helps readers to create a feel-good home. Something that we share a passion for. In this extract we share our favourite gallery walls from its pages.
Whether your collections consist of fine art watercolours, decorative plates, contemporary prints, ethnic weavings; junk yard finds or valuable heirlooms… or perhaps a considered mix of all manner of styles and materials, gallery walls can create impact, demand attention and spark conversation. “An entire collection displayed as a whole is almost like an art piece in itself,” says vintage dealers Rozana and Patrick Gillogly whose home is featured in the book.
While there are some tips that designers keep in mind, says Ki Nassauer, such as: “Groupings look best in odd numbers, and vignettes benefit from mixed materials, like wood, metal and glass. The centre of a mirror or artwork should be 60in/152cm from the ground; if you’re doing a gallery wall, build out from there so that you have a grounded focal point.” Ki – herself an avid collector, stylist and editor – believes that the key to curating collections in a feel-good home is to experiment, move things around and mix and match.
