The award-winning cookery author, entrepreneur and founder of Deliciously Ella takes us behind the scenes at the West London home she shares with her husband, Matt

Where do you live and why?
We live in West London and I love it. We’re near the park, which is my favourite place to be and I try and walk our dog, Austin, through it on my way to work each day. We’re also just 20 minutes from the office, where sadly we do spend most of our time! I love London though, I can’t really imagine ever living anywhere else. I love the buzz of it, the sense of excitement and the never-ending list of things you can explore.
What’s the first thing that you did to your home when you moved in?
It was a really blank space when we moved in – everything was white and very shiny, so we wanted to add lots of warmth and colour. It’s a really bright space so we wanted to soften it using lots of textures and brighter colours.
What’s on your bedside table?
So many books. I love reading before bed – it really helps me switch off, so I have an endless stack of new and old favourites waiting for me. I’ve just finished Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie, which I loved. Next is Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney.
What are some of the most memorable things which have happened in your home?
Finding out we were pregnant was definitely the biggest – knowing it’ll be a family home in the future is just amazing. Having our friends and family there is always a highlight. I just love it being filled with people, noise and excitement.
You work with your husband. Do you ever manage to separate work from your home life?
Not very successfully… We just love what we do and feel such a sense of mission in it that it feels impossible to turn it off sometimes, I’m always wanting to do more and spread our love of vegetables a little further! We’re both so excited by the possibilities and opportunities ahead of us and want to take full advantage of them all.

What was your childhood home like?
Noisy! I’m one of four children and all my memories are of us being very noisy and having such a good time together. I’m really close with my brother and my sisters, we’re pretty close in age and growing up together was really special.
What’s your domestic guilty secret or pet hate?
Washing up – I just hate it! I love cooking, I find it really relaxing and a great creative outlet. Luckily Matt is a great washer-upper and I do the cooking.
What makes your house a home?
Memories – pictures of those memories, the pieces we’ve collected together whilst travelling and knowing that every corner has a little bit of history and a story in it.
